Last year a friend of ours raved about this ‘beef and onion tree’ so we just had to try it. Chinese Toon is a tree native to East and Southeast Asian known for its flavorful young shoots used extensively in Chinese cuisine. It can be pollarded to produce more of these young shoots or ‘Toona sprouts,’ which are apparently super nutritious and have a delicious umami flavor. We are offering 1-year-old seedlings and since we have doubts about whether they will survive the winter here in our zone 5 climate, this selection is for fall shipping only. Some sources say Chinese Toon can survive in a 5b winter, others say zone 6. We love a good experiment!
